[ Lance stares at her for a second before answering, a little confused. ] Wow, uh. No offense, but isn't that kind of a loaded question considering everyone I've run into so far somehow got kidnapped into the creepy middle of nowhere?

... Are you responsible for this? [ She looks like a pretty normal human though. So. Not sure how that'd be possible. ]

Huh? Oh gosh, not at all! Sorry if that's what it sounded like!

Honestly, I'm just as confused about what's going on. But I thought it would better to maybe get some conversation going, and to introduce myself, too.

Nice to meet you too, Monika. So uh... where are you from?

Oh, I'm just a high school student from Japan!

[That's what everybody assumes nowadays, she figures.]

Me? Hah, well-- [ You have rarely seen a teenager look this smug.

But then he falters as he reconsiders what he's going to say, his expression crumbling into something more uncertain. ]

I uh... I was a cadet at the Galaxy Garrison. But I dunno if you'd have heard of it.

[loadme]

I sure haven't, but that's okay! With so many different people around, we're all bound to have different stories.

[A pause, before giving his words some thought.]

So, when you said Galaxy... Does that mean you've been to space?

[arrogator]

[She's still not used to this magic mirror stuff. It's weird and she can't shake the feeling it's the kind of thing her mother or that Assassin would use. But she'll try to put things aside since this seems to be the first legitimately normal person she's see. A commoner or civilian or whatever they're called these days instead of that woman from the forest or the giant lion robot guy.]

As well as can be given everything. I guess.

[She just sighs a little, and it's actually visible since once all the arrival stuff happens, she's more willing to not have her helmet and armor on all the time.]

How about you? You look...

[What's the word she's looking for?][There's almost definitely a better way to word that, but that's all she's got.]

That's good enough for me! It sounds like everyone else here is in the same boat.

Oh, is there something wrong with how I look?

[arrogator]

No, you look pretty normal, you don't have a jetpack like that other guy or anything like that.

T-There's someone here with a jetpack?

I guess I must look pretty dull compared to something like that.

[arrogator]

Yeah. He said something about a giant robot lion too, but I'm not buying that crap.

[There's a line and things like that clearly cross it. Never mind that she's seen some pretty crazy stuff, that's just too ridiculous for her. And he wanted to talk about that first because she's not really sure how to handle that remark about looking dull. Mordred really doesn't deal with normal people much.]

And I don't know about dull, but it's probably not so bad being normal? If whatever brought us here shows up, you can just relax and let us deal with it until it sends everybody back home.

[She thinks she handled that well. She probably didn't, or at least not as well as she thinks she did.]

Oh wow. That all sounds pretty exciting. The only lions I've ever known about are the... normal ones?

[Monika thinks about it for a moment.]

But I don't know if I would feel right if I just let everyone else put themselves in danger like that. I'd still like to be to help, somehow!

[arrogator]

Makes sense, you don't really strike me as the type to have run into a chimera or something else like that.

[She'll be tactful enough to leave out the "because you'd be dead" that she feels would be the natural conclusion to something like that happening.]

And hey, don't worry about it. Some of us are used to it.

[She can't even count how many times she's put herself in danger. But it's a high number.]

You could help though if you could fight? Or heal? Or if you've got any survival skills, Somebody's bound to do something stupid out there, so it'd be good if somebody showed them how to not end up dead.

[These are definitely things Mordred considers valuable skills when transported to some strange new world. Even if there's no real reason to have fighters or anything yet, she's pretty sure some sort of monster or jerk'll show up and they'll have to do something about it. But there's another skill she thinks would come in handy, so she'll mention that one as well.]

Or if you can cook. That's important too.

[She is completely serious about this.]

Ahaha...

[Monika just laughs nervously.]

I can at least cook!

[Maybe? Probably?]

I don't really have any sort of medical training, and I'm in pretty good shape, too. But I don't know if that really counts as good in a fight.

I really am kind of useless here, huh?

[arrogator]

Look, so long as you know how to do things besides mash the ingredients up, I'm not going to complain.

[Mordred really doesn't like the sound of that nervous laugh, but she can't be worse than Gawain. Not that Mordred ever ate with the other knights, kind of hard to when she was told not to remove her helmet around anyone, but she's heard stories.]

Being useless probably isn't so bad though. Lots of people are useless and they seem to get through life okay.

[She wouldn't really know, it's not something that's every really crossed her mind before today.]

I was sleeping.

[Don't mind the sarcasm, Monika. Tsume was born grumpy and is especially so when snoozing. He's mostly been getting short naps in since he doesn't trust this place enough to feel comfortable sleeping for long periods of time.]

Really? Me too!

[In a way.]

I guess if there's ever a good time to be whisked away to another world, it's when you're asleep.

I suppose. But I would have preferred everyone else I was with to come with me.

[Tsume could have done with being pulled out of a dying world to one that was nice, clean, and had an abundance of wildlife to hunt if only his pack had come with him.]

[loadme]

That makes sense. I think that any situation, no matter how rough or weird, can be made better if you just have some friends around.

Or maybe you can use this opportunity to make some new friends, too.

I don't do well making friends.

[Not with humans anyway. He just wasn't like them and it was hard to connect. Even with his fellow wolves he'd tried everything wolfily possible to make them fuck off before he finally gave up and just allowed himself to get close.]

[loadme]

I can understand that. Everyone's different, after all.

[Some people just had an easier time talking than others. Nothing wrong with that!]

If you want, I could be your friend!

[That produces a long pause from Tsume. He's always hesitant to get close to humans. They have a way of disappointing him.]

We'll see.

[loadme]

[She leaves it at that.]
