shard --1
[ Hello island, here's one (1) teenager looking at you from your mirror shards. He waits a moment before admitting, ] Okay, yeah, this is kinda weird.
Hi, for those I haven't met, I'm Lance. I've got a question for basically anyone who can answer.
I know that to the North of the lake area there's snowy mountains. To the East there's a desert apparently. What's in the South and the West? Some of you woke up there, right?
And I guess follow-up from the diving adventures, anyone know if all the weird little cubes got picked up?
[ He scratches his head, a little awkward, but decides to forge on anyway. ]
Also, I learned recently that people who're here might also straight up vanish again, so I just wanted to check if the people I ran into and actually like know by name are still here. Bucky, Saber, Monika, everyone still around?
action:
[ If you'd rather run into him in person (or literally live with him, hi I see you) you can find him near a house that's relatively close to the lake. There's a clearing of sorts, and he's set himself up for some archery practice with a bow made out of bamboo - it's not great. Practice is slow going and frustrating. But he's going to be here periodically throughout the day, trying not to break his arrows. ]

action;
Also, the bow is great, okay? Better than no bow. Stop whining.
But well, Keith is in the living room and, soon, a puzzle box is being thrown against the wall.] URGH! [Yeah, the thing is frustrating and, honestly? He has no patience for this. Yet, he can't help but wonder: why does the box have the Marmora's symbol? And why does Lance's have the Garrison's?
He eyes the other's box, resting over the table, and frowns, before sighing. Maybe after a hunt his head will have cleared enough for this. For now, he is definitely not picking that box back up. Instead, he gives a glance towards the window - the forest seems calm enough - before getting up from the sofa and making his way outside, to see how Lance is doing.]
action;
The bow is okay, he guesses. ... But that doesn't mean practice is going super well. Lance was having a water break when he heard the crashing sound. He perks up... but it's only a small object from the sound of it. Which means he can guess what it was. Otherwise he might come running.
But it's back to practice instead, and Lance continues to try to actually hit the tree he's aiming for with enough strength it'll make a difference. Only one arrow actually stuck so far, even though it's not even in the biggest of the circles Lance scratched into the bark. But he has the same discipline with the bow he has with the rifle, holding his breath as he aims and lets the arrow fly-- but winces as the string hits his arm, throwing his aim way off.
The arrow sails harmlessly past the target. ]
action;
It's only a couple of minutes before he returns, now carrying a piece of fabric over his shoulder - torn from the tablecloth from the first house they stayed at - and one of Lance's forearm protections, from his Paladin armor.]
Hey. [He greets, as he approaches, taking a look at the tree. Only one arrow is stuck there, but that's actually more than what he was expecting.] Good job! [He says, before looking at Lance, a small smile on his face.] It's probably not easy to get the hang of that. [Mainly for someone who never did it before. So Lance is doing pretty good.
His eyes lower, then, to his arm.] I brought this, [He puts the armor on the floor and shows Lance the cloth.] to cover your arm. [Then, he points to the armor on the floor, with his chin.] Then you can put the armor over it, to avoid skin-burn. [And his eyes meet Lance's again.] If the string doesn't hurt you when it hits, your aim will improve.
action;
By the time Keith finds him, Lance is collecting his arrows, safe for the one that managed to actually stick in the tree. He's gonna need some kind of quiver at some point, but they haven't figured out what to repurpose for that yet, or how to make one otherwise. He greets Keith before he even looks up, tugging another arrow from the forest floor. ] Hey.
[ The praise is nice. He smiles back, but he's rubbing the back of his neck. ] Yeah... it's kind of tricky.
[ He worries about pulling too hard or not hard enough. But he'll just have to practice some more. Approaching Keith, his eyes widen at the stuff he brought. ] Huh. Yeah, that's... probably true, good thinking. [ He smiles back. ] ... Thanks. [ He puts the bow and arrows down, reaching for the cloth. Except, uh. Hand logistics. ] Let's try that. But uh, gimme a hand here?
action;
Sure. [He says, and waits for Lance to extend his arm for him, only to then notice - far more properly - that the arm isn't only red but also bruised. He frowns, at first, raising his eyebrow after and then turning his attention towards the lake. Hm.] ... Come here. [He looks at Lance again and then bends down, to pick up his arm-protector, before starting to make his way towards the water.]
action;
[ Huh? He looks down at his arm. The bruising is definitely already visible under the reddened skin, slowly blooming purple. And, well, he doesn't get what this is about, but sure. ] Uh, okay. [ He jogs the first few steps to catch up with Keith. ]
action;
The algae in the lake, he thinks, might have healing properties. But he wouldn't know. He doesn't know much about algae at all. He does know about something else, though. Kneeling down, he gets his hand into the mud around the water's edge, smiling once he picks it up.
It's not sandy, which is perfect. It's the right consistency, too. Letting go of some, he gets up again and turns to Lance, meeting his eyes.] This will help. [His skin. Not so much the bruising, but given how cold it is, it should help ease that, too.
He doesn't move it to Lance's arm right away, though, instead waiting for him to let him know that he can.]
action;
Or he would suppose, if he'd thought about it.
His eyebrows rise again as he sees Keith pick up a handful of mud. ] ... It will? [ He had no idea. Wow. Part of him is wondering if Keith is pulling his leg here, but he doesn't seem to be. At least, it doesn't seem like something Keith would do. So he extends his arm. ] Then sure, go for it.
action;
Focusing on it, Keith places the mud over his skin, using his hand to spread it and carefully cover all the bruised and reddened areas.] Some people use it as-- You know. [He lifts his head to look at Lance's face. ... How is that even called? A... mask? Mas...cara? Face... cover... cream... thing?] That thing. [...
He lifts his hand from Lance's arm, making a circle motion over his own face to show him what he means, before returning his hand - and his attention - back to what he was doing.] ... That you do.
action;
[ The gesture helps too. ] Oh, the face mask? Yeah, you're right about that, they definitely make those.
[ Wait. There's something here he's trying to put together but it's not quite working yet. Something something skin, safe to apply, cooling, soothing-- nope, doesn't click yet. ] How'd you know about this?
action;
Once that's done, he cleans it on his pants and gets his glove back on. The question, when Lance makes it, hangs over his head for a while. When Keith answers, he doesn't really look at him, instead focusing on his arm again, placing the cloth over it.] My dad taught me. [His voice is a little lower than before, as he starts to roll the cloth around Lance's arm.]
action;
He watches Keith wash off the rest and put his glove back on, then holds his arm back out for the makeshift bandage. What he doesn't expect is how sad Keith looks at the mention of his dad, and immediately his mind is racing to put together what he even knows about Keith's family. He met his mom. He remembers Griffin getting punched in the face for saying Keith got abandoned by his parents, which... is enough to figure out Keith's parents just weren't in the picture at all.
He figures there probably isn't any chance they'll run into Keith's dad somewhere in space.
So all he can think to say is, ] Oh.
[ And how do you come back from that? ] I see. [ There's a stupid quip there about didn't he grow up in the desert and where would there have been any water, but he can't say that anymore. ] Thanks for this.
action;
At the thanks, he nods, finally looking up, to meet Lance's eyes.] Sure. [And he offers him his piece of armor.]
action;
It gets a little easier once their eyes meet. He offers a small smile as he takes the gauntlet, carefully fitting it over the bandaged area.
And that's when it hits him, basically out of the blue: ] Wait a second, why didn't we do this with your sunburn?! [ There it is. That's the thing he was trying to think of. ]
action;
He is about to start moving again when Lance's question - was it a question? - comes and Keith stops, blinking. Huh?]
... [He meets his eyes again. ... Huh.] Uh. I--... [And it's his turn to scratch the back of his neck. Hm.] I-I didn't think of it.
action;
He's falling into step with Keith as he starts moving, but he's frowning at him pretty hard right now either way. ] How did you not think of that? ... Okay scratch that, you were in pretty bad shape. But dude. [ You were in pain for days. And here he is with a bit of a scrape. Lance sighs. ] I guess I better remember stuff like this in the future, huh?
action;
...
At the last of Lance's words though, Keith snorts.]
I... guess? [And he looks away towards the house, arms moving to cross over his chest again. Honestly? He hopes it won't be needed.] It's not a big deal.
action;
He frowns again as Keith looks away, not sure what to make of the gesture. All closed off, suddenly. He lifts his hand to put on Keith's shoulder, but reconsiders and lowers it again. He looks down. ] I just wish I could've helped you, is all.
[ But-- well.
He gets a move on, walking towards his bow and arrows. ] Anyway, let's try this set-up.
voice or video or whatever we're calling this shard thing
[It's a big enough island to be able to avoid running into people, honestly, but at the same time it doesn't seem overly populated either. Part of him wonders if any sort of census or anything has been done.]
And curious to know if anyone's tried to map this place out.
shard thing is good!
Shaking his head at the question though. ] Beats me. I mean, Peter's been here longer than anyone I've run into, and he said this place is an island. Which... is weird, I mean I didn't see any shore up north, did you?
\o/
I didn’t, but we were also a little more focused on finding shelter than looking for a coastline. I wouldn’t be opposed to trying to find out more, but properly dressed and provisioned this time.
[He’s quiet for a moment, considering. Assuming that everyone can hear and see everything on these strange shards? It might be worth trying to find out.]
I’d like to know who’s here, because I haven’t seen a lot of people. Figure out what we all know. Then decide what to do with that.
no subject
[ And there's a nod at Bucky's next suggestion. ] I know I saw about a dozen people at the lake that time, but I've only actually talked to a handful of 'em. The, uh, diving part didn't help. There haven't been that many people talking on the [ The image wobbles as he gestures, then checks himself, ] the mirror things either.
Who've you met? And uh, did you move down here to the lake?
no subject
[Or maybe they just shouldn't go traipsing about in the snow. It's certainly not the only part of this weird island to explore, and perhaps the other terrain isn't as harsh.]
Didn't see a need to. [The cold really isn't overly bad when one's expecting it (and not waking up half buried in it!)] But if we're really that few, it might be safer to. We still don't know what's out here, if there's anything out here.
I can count the number of people I've met on one hand. Whatever brought us here, apparently hasn't brought a lot of us. I'm not sure what that means.
no subject
Yeah, I'm still here.
[She'd been dealing with the puzzle box recently, so she doesn't have her armor equipped. Because solving that thing with her hands is enough of a problem, she's not even going to try with her gauntlets. Though the thought of taking Clarent to the damn thing is tempting.]
And there's a bunch of forest to the west, that's where I woke up at.
no subject
[ It's still a little surreal that "armor guy" turned out to be a tiny girl. ... But he hasn't forgotten that she kicked the shit out of that tree, so he's gonna just not say a thing about that. ]
Good to see you again. [ What? It is! ] And noted about the forest. This stuff is like something out of a video game... hey do you think someone could, like, make a whole island?
no subject
I'll take your word for it, I never got to play any.
[She knows they exist thanks to convenient summoning knowledge, but she never actually had time to check them out what with the Grail War and everything.]
And I don't know, I've seen some crazy stuff, but it'd take a hell of a mage to create something like this and I'm not sure one like that exists.
no subject
The other part of the answer gets a sigh though. ] Man... sooo magic and stuff exists for you, huh? That's neat. But I guess we're back to square one, whatever or whoever made this has to be like super powerful.
... Did you get the box open yet?
no subject
[As a Servant, her existence is basically magic, but yeah, she can't really do any of it.]
And no, I haven't really gotten anywhere with it.
[She'll look away from her shard, glaring at the box sitting over there.]
What about you?
no subject
[And still all smiles.]
Are you doing okay?
no subject
[if his phone was working, then maybe he'd be able to tell directions better. he just knows which way is which though, not what cardinal point it's in.]
